Whether you are dropping a pin for a friend, logging a fishing spot, filing a field report, or teaching a geography class, you eventually need one thing: the precise latitude and longitude of a point. Latitude and Longitude Finder makes that effortless — find your spot three ways (search, tap, or current location) and read the coordinates in whichever notation your task calls for.

Coordinate formats
Four ways to write a position.
Different jobs use different notations. Here is what each one means and when you would use it.
Decimal degrees (DD)
Two numbers, latitude then longitude — like 41.0082, 28.9784 for Istanbul. Positive is north/east, negative is south/west. This is what you paste into Google Maps, share in a message, or store in a spreadsheet.
Degrees, minutes, seconds (DMS)
The navigator's classic, written like 41°00'29.5"N 28°58'42.2"E. Each degree splits into 60 minutes, each minute into 60 seconds. You will see DMS on nautical charts, in aviation, and on most printed maps.
UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator)
Position expressed in metres on a flat grid, inside one of 60 zones — the surveyor's and hiker's friend, because ground distance maps directly to metres. Uses the WGS84 datum, with Norway and Svalbard special rules supported.
MGRS (Military Grid Reference System)
A UTM extension used by NATO and search-and-rescue teams. It adds a 100,000-metre square identifier and a tidy numeric string, so a position can be read aloud over the radio without ambiguity.
Who it's for
Made for everyone who works with location.
Sailors, pilots & travelers
A position you can trust and share, in the format your instruments expect.
GIS pros & surveyors
Move between UTM, MGRS and decimal degrees all day without a second tool.
Students & teachers
See how coordinate systems actually relate to one another, hands-on.
Search & rescue teams
Rely on MGRS and an accurate current-location reading in the field.
Everyday users
Mark a parking spot, a trailhead, or the perfect picnic place.
Accuracy you can trust
WGS84 datum throughout — the same reference frame GPS itself uses.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the latitude and longitude of a place?
Search for it by name, tap its spot on the map, or use your current location. The coordinates appear instantly in all four formats, ready to copy or share.
What is the difference between Decimal, DMS, UTM and MGRS?
Decimal and DMS describe a position as angles; UTM and MGRS describe it as metres on a projected grid. Decimal is best for sharing, DMS for navigation, and UTM/MGRS for surveying and field work.
Does it work offline?
Coordinate conversion, the compass and your saved favorites work offline. Map tiles and place-name search need a connection.
Is it free?
Yes — free to download and use on iPhone and iPad.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad on iOS / iPadOS 17.6 or later, Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 14.6+, and Apple Vision on visionOS 1.3+.
